Background: The shared inherited genetic contribution to risk of different cancers is not fully known. In this study, we leverage results from twelve cancer genome-wide association studies (GWAS) to quantify pair-wise genome-wide genetic correlations across cancers and identify novel cancer susceptibility loci. Methods: We collected GWAS summary statistics for twelve solid cancers based on 376,759 cancer cases and 532,864 controls of European ancestry. The included cancer types were breast, colo... Abstract
Journal of robotic surgery, 16 3 2023 Robot-assisted thoracic surgery for stages IIB-IVA non-small cell lung cancer: retrospective study of feasibility and outcome. Shahin GMM, Vos PWK, Hutteman M, Stigt JA, Braun J
Robot-assisted thoracic surgery (RATS) for higher stages non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) remains controversial. This study reports the feasibility of RATS in patients with stages IIB-IVA NSCLC. A single-institute, retrospective study was conducted with patients undergoing RATS for stages IIB-IVA NSCLC, from January 2015 until January 2020. Unforeseen N2 disease was excluded. Data were collected from the Dutch Lung Cancer Audit database. Conversion rate, radical (R0) resection rate, local r... Abstract

Journal of endovascular therapy : an official journal of the International Society of Endovascular Specialists, 16 3 2023, Pages 15266028231158302 Identifying Patients at High Risk for Post-EVAR Aneurysm Sac Growth. Bruijn LE, Louhichi J, Veger HTC, Wever JJ, van Dijk LC, van Overhagen H, Hamming JF, Statius van Eps RGS
Purpose: Post-EVAR (endovascular aneurysm repair) aneurysm sac growth can be seen as therapy failure as it is a risk factor for post-EVAR aneurysm rupture. This study sought to identify preoperative patient predictors for developing post-EVAR aneurysm sac growth. Material and methods: A systematic review was conducted to select potential predictive preoperative factors for post-EVAR sac growth (including a total of 34.886 patients), which were evaluated by a retrospective single-center analysis... The 3-dimensional spatial and 2-dimensional frontal QRS-T angles are measures derived from the vectorcardiogram. They are independent risk predictors for arrhythmia, but the underlying biology is unknown. Using multi-ancestry genome-wide association studies we identify 61 (58 previously unreported) loci for the spatial QRS-T angle (N = 118,780) and 11 for the frontal QRS-T angle (N = 159,715). Seven out of the 61 spatial QRS-T angle loci have not been reported for other electrocardiographic meas... Abstract
Journal of cardiovascular computed tomography, 13 2 2023, Pages S1934-5925(23)00067-9 Plaque volume, composition, and fraction versus ischemia and outcomes in patients with coronary artery disease. Kuneman JH, van den Hoogen IJ, Schultz J, Maaniitty T, van Rosendael AR, Kamperidis V, de Graaf MA, Broersen A, Jukema JW, Bax JJ, Saraste A, Knuuti J
Background: The various plaque components have been associated with ischemia and outcomes in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). The main goal of this analysis was to test the hypothesis that, at patient level, the fraction of non-calcified plaque volume (PV) of total PV is associated with ischemia and outcomes in patients with CAD. This ratio could be a simple and clinically useful parameter, if predicting outcomes. Methods: Consecutive patients with suspected CAD undergoing coronary c... Abstract

Lung-function impairment underlies chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and predicts mortality. In the largest multi-ancestry genome-wide association meta-analysis of lung function to date, comprising 580,869 participants, we identified 1,020 independent association signals implicating 559 genes supported by ≥2 criteria from a systematic variant-to-gene mapping framework. These genes were enriched in 29 pathways. Individual variants showed heterogeneity across ancestries, age and smoking... Abstract

The EU Horizon 2020 Framework-funded Standardized Treatment and Outcome Platform for Stereotactic Therapy Of Re-entrant tachycardia by a Multidisciplinary (STOPSTORM) consortium has been established as a large research network for investigating STereotactic Arrhythmia Radioablation (STAR) for ventricular tachycardia (VT). The aim is to provide a pooled treatment database to evaluate patterns of practice and outcomes of STAR and finally to harmonize STAR within Europe. The consortium comprises 31... Abstract
EBioMedicine, Volume 90, 6 1 2023, Pages 104506 Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor ɣ agonist mediated inhibition of heparanase expression reduces proteinuria. Background: Proteinuria is associated with many glomerular diseases and a risk factor for the progression to renal failure. We previously showed that heparanase (HPSE) is essential for the development of proteinuria, whereas peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor ɣ (PPARɣ) agonists can ameliorate proteinuria. Since a recent study showed that PPARɣ regulates HPSE expression in liver cancer cells, we hypothesized that PPARɣ agonists exert their reno-protective effect by inhibiting glomerular H... Abstract

European heart journal, 5 1 2023, Pages ehad144 Transiently achieved very low LDL-cholesterol levels by statin and alirocumab after acute coronary syndrome are associated with cardiovascular risk reduction: the ODYSSEY OUTCOMES trial. Aims: Long-term, placebo-controlled cholesterol-lowering trials have demonstrated legacy effects (clinical benefits that persist or emerge after trial end). It is unknown whether legacy effects follow a short period of very low low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels achieved with statin plus PCSK9 inhibitor. Methods and results: In 18,924 patients post-acute coronary syndrome, the ODYSSEY OUTCOMES trial compared the PCSK9 inhibitor alirocumab with placebo, each added to high-intensit... Abstract
European journal of surgical oncology : the journal of the European Society of Surgical Oncology and the British Association of Surgical Oncology, 2 1 2023, Pages S0748-7983(23)00171-3 A quantitative assessment of perfusion of the gastric conduit after oesophagectomy using near-infrared fluorescence with indocyanine green. Galema HA, Faber RA, Tange FP, Hilling DE, van der Vorst JR, Upper-GI ICG quantification study group
Introduction: Anastomotic leakage is a severe complication after oesophageal resection with gastric conduit reconstruction. Poor perfusion of the gastric conduit plays an important role in the development of anastomotic leakage. Quantitative near-infrared (NIR) fluorescence angiography with indocyanine green (ICG-FA) is an objective technique that can be used for perfusion assessment. This study aims to assess perfusion patterns of the gastric conduit with quantitative ICG-FA. Methods: In this e... Abstract

Cardiac implantable electronic device (CIED) therapy is an essential element in treating cardiac arrhythmias. Despite their benefits, conventional transvenous CIEDs are associated with a significant risk of mainly pocket- and lead-related complications. To overcome these complications, extravascular devices (EVDs), such as the subcutaneous implantable cardioverter-defibrillator and intracardiac leadless pacemaker, have been developed. In the near future, several other innovative EVDs will become... Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the effects of 16% carbamide peroxide (CP) on the relative translucency parameter (RTP) and color stability of thermally aged CAD-CAM glass-ceramics with glazing or polishing. Three different CAD-CAM blocks-feldspathic (VM), lithium disilicate (IPS), and zirconia-reinforced lithium silicate ceramic (VS)-were used in this study. The specimens were divided into two groups (n=10) according to surface treatments (glazing or polishing). Bleaching treatment with 16% CP... Abstract
