Prof.Dr. E.F. Smit

Prof. dr. E.F. (Egbert) Smit is longarts en heeft als aandachtsgebied longkanker.

Zijn opleiding tot longarts volgde hij in het Universitair Medisch Centrum Groningen nadat hij in 1990 promoveerde op klinisch en translationeel onderzoek naar longcarcinoom.

Sedert 1997 is hij achtereenvolgens werkzaam geweest in het VU Medisch Centrum (met een korte onderbreking) tot 2014 en NKI-AvL tot 2021. Egbert Smit is sedert 1986 betrokken geweest bij basaal onderzoek en klinisch onderzoek varierend van chemopeventie studies tot aan behandeling van metastatisch longkanker. Hij is PI van vele nationale en internationale fase II en III studies geweest. In de laatste 10 jaar is het focus van zijn onderzoek op translationele oncologie en moleculaire imaging.

Sinds oktober 2021 is hij afdelingshoofd van de afdeling Longziekten van het LUMC.
