Aanwezigheid van longemfyseem vastgesteld door een radioloog in beelden van een CT thorax
Een FEV1 na bronchodilatatie die lager is dan 80% van voorspeld of een TLCO die lager is dan 80% van voorspeld
Leeftijd hoger dan 20 jaar
Patiënt moet minstens 6 maanden gestopt zijn met roken

In 2008 werd bij een toen 53-jarige vrouw longfunctieonderzoek verricht omdat bij haar broer ernstig emfyseem was vastgesteld en ZZ genotype AATD. De vrouw had 10 jaar lang gerookt (15 packyears) en was op haar 51ste gestopt met roken. Ook bij haar werd genotype ZZ AATD vastgesteld en in November 2008 werd bij haar voor het eerst spirometrie verricht. Er bleek een FEV1/FVC van 62% gemeten met een FEV1 van 2,09L (77% pred). During his Master's studies, he was mainly engaged in research on regenerative medicine, including induced pluripotent stem cells. During this time he spent 3 months in our lab as an intern. Now he returns as a PhD student to unravel the underlying molecular mechanisms of cardiomyogenic (de)differentiation using conditionally immortalized cardiomyocytes.
