De pulmonalisklep is gesitueerd tussen de rechterhartkamer en de longslagader. De klep zorgt ervoor dat het bloed na het samentrekken van de rechterkamer naar de longen stroomt en niet terug de kamer in.
Wat is de oorzaak?Afwijkingen van de pulmonalisklep zijn zeldzaam. Een belangrijke oorzaak is een aangeboren hartafwijking waarbij een vernauwing (pulmonalisstenose) aanwezig is. Our article on biological defribrillation has been published by the European Heart Journal. It describes our journey so far in answering one of the key questions of the lab: whether and how the heart’s own electrical activity could also be used not only for diagnostic, but also for therapeutic purposes, i.e. to develop a trauma-free biological defibrillation procedure.

E. (Elise) Wendel, MSc. is klinisch perfusionist. Zij heeft haar opleiding tot klinisch perfusionist gevolgd in het Leids Universitair Medisch Centrum en rondde deze in 2016 af. Voorafgaande aan haar huidige opleiding studeerde ze Gezondheidswetenschappen aan de Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.
Ze is werkzaam geweest bij het Antoni van Leeuwenhoek/Nederlands kanker instituut en het VU Medisch Centrum. Daar hield ze zich bezig met onderzoek naar de late effecten van kanker. Lees verder

Iolanda has finished her PhD thesis, entitled "Optogenetic investigation of cardiac arrhythmia mechanisms". She will defend her thesis publically on Dec 11th in front of family, friends, and a dedicated thesis committee. We are proud to have Leonardo Sacconi from the Biophysics Biophotinics Lab at LENS, Florence, Italy, in the committe as an expert in the field of cardiac optogenetics.
Her PhD training was supported by ZonMw, Ammodo and the ERC.

Sasha Panfilov is also a full professor of biophysics at the Department of Physics and Astronomy of Ghent University (Belgium), and a Honorary professor of mathematics at Dundee University (UK). Het hart knijpt in rust gemiddeld tussen de 60 en 80 keer per minuut samen en pompt daarmee het bloed rond. De hoeveelheid slagen per minuut wordt de hartfrequentie genoemd.
