Boezemflutter of atriumflutter is een hartritmestoornis waarbij de linker- en rechterboezems van het hart snel samentrekken. Dit zorgt voor een snellere, regelmatige hartslag, waarbij het hart zo'n 150 keer per minuut slaat. De stoornis ontstaat meestal in de rechterboezem (het rechteratrium). Deze hartritmestoornis komt veel minder vaak voor dan boezemfibrilleren.

Alexander S. Teplenin, MSc
Alexander (Sasha) Teplenin joined our lab in the autumn of 2014, after obtaining his MSc degree in Applied Mathematics and Physics from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT) in Russia.
He has specialized in cardiac tissue engineering and studying excitation waves in artificial cardiac constructs. During his ZonMw-supported PhD training he will utilize various optogenetic tools for investigating new strategies to study and treat cardiac arrhythmias.

A week full of education: Thank you all!
Like previous years, the lab has been actively involved in a week full of lectures, working groups and exercises, as part of the half minor Heart and Blood vessels for (bio)medical and clinical tech students.
Iolanda did a really great job in organizing a Fire&Ice meeting on Figure outline, thereby addressing questions like: How do you determine the composition and order of your figures, why would you care and how to best deliver your message?

Pericarditis

Wat is pericarditis?Het hart wordt aan de buitenkant omvat door het zogenaamde hartzakje (het pericard). Als dit hartzakje ontstoken is, spreekt men van een pericarditis.
Wat zijn de symptomen?De belangrijkste klacht bij een pericarditis is houdingsafhankelijke pijn op de borst. Soms gaat dit gepaard met koorts of verhoging en klachten van algehele malaise. Als er veel vocht in het ontstoken hartzakje zit wat de beweging van het hart belemmert, kunt u klachten hebben van kortademigheid, duizeli... Lees verder

F. (Fred) Tyl is senior klinisch perfusionist binnen het LUMC. In 1990 startte hij, na zijn studie aan de Haagsche academie voor lichamelijke opvoeding, aan de opleiding tot klinisch perfusionist te Leiden, waarvoor hij in 1994 afstudeerde.
