Expert review of cardiovascular therapy, Volume 14, Issue 1, 4 1 2015, Pages 75-86 The role of multimodality imaging in the selection of patients for aortic valve repair. Regeer MV, Versteegh MI, Marsan NA, Bax JJ, Delgado V
Aortic valve sparing surgery for aortic regurgitation and/or aortopathy serves as an alternative to aortic valve and root replacement. One of the advantages of aortic valve sparing surgery over conventional replacement is that there is no need for life-long anticoagulation, which is particularly attractive in young patients who may receive a mechanical prosthesis otherwise. However, successful aortic valve repair requires high expertise. At present, reparability is determined intraoperatively by... Abstract

The international journal of cardiovascular imaging, Volume 31, Issue 8, 29 5 2015, Pages 1583-1590 Effect of statins on aortic root growth rate in patients with bicuspid aortic valve anatomy. Regeer MV, van Rosendael PJ, Kamperidis V, Schalij MJ, Bax JJ, Marsan NA, Delgado V
Bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) anatomy is associated with increased growth rate of the aortic root compared to tricuspid aortic valves. Statins decrease the growth rate of abdominal aneurysms; however their effect on the aortic root growth rate has not been elucidated. The present study evaluated the association between use of statins and aortic root growth in patients with BAV. A total of 199 patients (43 ± 15 years, 69% male) with BAV who underwent ≥ 2 echocardiographic measurements of the aortic... Abstract

The American journal of cardiology, Volume 116, Issue 9, 14 2 2015, Pages 1334-1339 Comparison of Changes in Global Longitudinal Peak Systolic Strain After ST-Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction in Patients With Versus Without Diabetes Mellitus. Hoogslag GE, Abou R, Joyce E, Boden H, Kamperidis V, Regeer MV, van Rosendael PJ, Schalij MJ, Bax JJ, Marsan NA, Delgado V
Global longitudinal strain (GLS) measured by 2-dimensional longitudinal speckle-tracking echocardiography may be a more sensitive measure of left ventricular (LV) mechanics than conventional LV ejection fraction (EF) to characterize adverse post-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) remodeling. The aim of the present evaluation was to compare changes in LV GLS in patients with versus without diabetes after the first STEMI. Patients with first STEMI and diabetes (n = 143; age 64 ± 12... International journal of clinical oncology, Volume 16, Issue 5, 8 2 2010, Pages 574-576 Blue toe syndrome and sunitinib. Postema PG, Regeer MV, van der Valk PR, Stroes ES, Richel DJ
We present a patient with metastatic renal cell carcinoma treated with sunitinib, a multitargeted tyrosine kinase inhibitor. The patient experienced bilateral blue toe syndrome which we related to sunitinib use. Discontinuation of sunitinib to lower the patient's prothrombotic state and increase the ability to form collaterals, together with the addition of low-molecular-weight heparin to treat the occluding thrombi, resulted in waning of the blue toe syndrome. This case adds to the accumul... Abstract
