Michiel Blok joined our lab for his PhD training in March 2021 after obtaining his MSc in Biomedical Sciences at Utrecht University.
During his PhD training he will mainly study the cellular mechanisms and signaling pathways that underlie sympathetic hyperinnervation of the infarcted heart. Here he will focus on the outer layer of the heart, the epicardium, as a potential modulator of this pathological process. Eventually, these findings could create the basis for new treatment strategies to prevent cardiac sympathetic hyperinnervation with the goal to reduce the risk of sudden cardiac death.
During his training he will be co-supervised by Dr. Monique Jongbloed (Department Cardiology and Anatomy & Embryology).
