Martin Schalij is the head of the Department of Cardiology, a board-certified cardiologist (intervention & electrophysiology), full professor in cardiac electrophysiology and scientific advisor of our research team.
Being trained in cardiac electrophysiology in the laboratory of Maurits Allessie (4 years PhD training finished in 1988) and a certified cardiologist (1992) with ample practical experience he supports our team with clinical input from a basic science point of view and vice versa.
Besides the interpretation and conceptualization of our data, he also critically assesses the clinical relevance of our research projects and their translation from bench to bedside.
