Douwe Atsma is a board-certified interventional cardiologist, full professor in cardiology, supervisor of the clinical stem cell program of the Heart Center Leiden and is actively involved in our stem cell research projects.
Since 2003, his team has treated over 200 cardiac patients with autologous cell suspensions, making him one of the global leaders in clinical cardiac cell therapy.
Douwe's clinical background in combination with his PhD training in basic cardiomyocyte physiology allows him to provide our team with both clinical and scientific insights and guide the research towards potential clinical applicability.
