We organized something new during our bi-annual scientific meeting of the Heart Long Center Leiden: the Brian Booster award. The description was as follows: New this round is the so-called Brain Booster, which offers researchers (PhD students and postdocs) the possibility to present their ideas on how to further improve themselves professionally (e.g. specific (atypical) course/conference/training or short visit at other institute/company, etc). The best 3 ideas will be selected by the jury for pitch-style presentation during the meeting, after which the winner will receive a check to realize his/her idea.
Tom Biersteker (left), Sophia Chen (middle) and Tim de Coster (right holding the check) were selected. Sophia was selected as winner (with her idea to go for a crash course programming), but as encouragement for the next meeting all 3 three were given a check. Ellen van der Willik did a great job as chair.
